Robert Goren: Kill one, scare a thousand

Lorne Cutter: You take orders from that lady?
Robert Goren: She's got seniority. You know these women on the force, they come with an extra set of brass ones.

E-mail by Lorne Cutler.: Helen, We will prevail in our most holy mission. Sure, the politicians and the law makers may be working against goodness now. But you must remember that we have the Lord on our side. All it takes is for one state to threaten sedition over abortion and this thing'll turn around. There's reason to hope. There's friends in surprising places, even in the New York City police. I met a detective who thinks picking up the sword as the only option left to stop the abortion factories.

Alexandra Eames: What do you really think?
Robert Goren: I'll tell you what I think when I get pregnant.
Alexandra Eames: You're going to have to do a lot better than that, Bobby.
Robert Goren: Okay. Life is full of uncertainty. People need to have options. Abortion has got to be one of those options. That's what I think.

Alexandra Eames.: Promise me a margarita when this is all over.

Griscom's Attorney: He's invoking his right to be silent.
Alexandra Eames: Well, he doesn't have the right to be deaf, so he's going to have to listen to what we have to say.

James Deakins: This guy has a death wish and he's going to take someone down with him.
Alexandra Eames: We can always hope he gets the order mixed up and shoots himself first.

Background information and notes

  • The script from "The Third Horseman" was used for the Paris Enquêtes Criminelles first season episode "Le justicier de l'ombre".
  • In 2002, this episode received a Maggie Award from Planned Parenthood.
  • Another episode in the Law & Order franchise that deals with the murder of an abortion doctor is the Law & Order episode "Dignity".
