Thomas "Tom" Lupo is the brother of Detective Cyrus Lupo, as well as a victim of assisted suicide.
History[]
Tom was happily married to a woman named Jenny and had two kids, Carly and Jude. While Cyrus was overseas working for police intel, Tom developed melanoma, which he got successfully treated. The cancer returned, metastasizing to his lungs and liver, giving him months to live. He became withdrawn and barely engaged with his family.
He began searching for right-to-die communities and eventually came across Mila Hames Lingard, the daughter of euthanasia advocate Dr. David Lingard, through people he contacted. Tom prepared his final affairs, including using his business money to pay off his mortgage. Mila agreed to assist him and replicated her father's methods, using the same IV machine and cocktail of three separate drugs – secobarbitol, pancuronium, and potassium chloride – to overdose him alone in a hotel room.
Jenny was devastated, with Cyrus shocked enough that he returned to New York City to find answers. Mila was revealed to have killed Tom and even her former summer camp coach with a neurodegenerative disease out of revenge against documentarian Bill Nolan for gaining fame from her father's media coverage.
Mila's prosecution ended in a mistrial when Lingard sabotaged the procedure by committing suicide right when he testified. Cyrus himself watched Tom's goodbye video for closure. (L&O: "Called Home")
