Plot

Detectives Logan and Barek investigate the murder of a young man found in the water with chains on his feet. The victim is identified as the son of a police officer and the murder may be a case of mistaken identity. Their investigation leads them to two rival Mafia families, but it soon becomes apparent that there is a much more sinister plot involving police corruption.

Background information and notes

• The real-life dirty cops who inspired this episode, Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa, were actually members of the real NYPD Major Case Squad while leading double lives as Mafia hitmen.
• Despite being credited, Courtney B. Vance does not appear in this episode.
• This is the first episode in which Logan and Elizabeth Rodgers share a scene together since the Law & Order episode "Cruel and Unusual".
• Detective Mark Virgini mentions Logan's old partner, Lennie Briscoe, getting accused by a dirty witness. He maybe referring to the investigation against Briscoe by the Hellman Commission in the Law & Order episode "Corruption", during which Briscoe's partner was Rey Curtis.
