Violet Tremain is the mother of kidnapping victim Nina Tremain.

History[]

Violet lost her husband in a car accident, which also injured her back. She used drugs to help treat her injury, but she got addicted to the painkillers in the process and never stopped taking them. She eventually decided to go to rehab but didn't want to leave Nina in foster care, since she had no other relatives to care for her daughter. As a result, she left Nina with an elderly neighbor, Mrs. Hawkins.

Nina and Violet used to write letters to each other, but the letters eventually kept getting sent back. Violet left rehab to see Nina but soon discovered that Mrs. Hawkins had died. Her super sent Nina into the system, where she was placed in the home of Thelma Price, who saw her as impossible to control and often neglected her. After a "social worker" came to take her out of Price's house, no one knew what happened to Nina.

Violet first believed that the recently-discovered body of a girl was her daughter, but it was later identified as Susie Marshall. It was revealed that Nina was kidnapped by a man named Terry Jessup, who was also responsible for Susie's murder. Jessup met the girls at the community center and held them captive because of their struggling mothers, after being abused by his own unhinged mother. Violet personally stepped in, hoping to rescue her daughter, telling Jessup how much she loved and cared for Nina and wanted her back after being gone for as long as she was. Fin was able to rescue Nina and return her to Violet, who gave her thanks to the squad. (SVU: "Dolls")
