Law and Order

Wyatt Ackman is the nephew of Charles Ackman and the murderer of Mary Costello.

History[]

Five years previously, Wyatt recorded a phone call he with his uncle: who admitted that he knew that the Oxycodone he sells was potent and highly addictive; he was paying doctors to over-prescribe it and get people addicted. His uncle Charles didn't care about people becoming addicts and overdosing, he just wanted to make profits.

Wyatt was questioned by Bernard and Cosgrove who acts shocked about Ella's death. Wyatt tells Bernard and Cosgrove that him and Ella were sort of dating and Bernard and Cosgrove tell Wyatt that Ella's real name was Mary Costello. Wyatt claims that he had no idea about Ella's real identity. Later, after Bernard and Cosgrove question a cab driver, the cab driver tells Bernard and Cosgrove that there was a man in a nice car stalking them.

Bernard and Cosgrove arrest Wyatt for her murder even though Wyatt continuously denies murdering her. At the arraignment trial, Maroun tells the judge that Wyatt is considered a flight risk and Wyatt's lawyer claims that Wyatt has an opioid addiction and she thinks that he should be sent to Rehab instead of going to prison. The judge doesn't buy Wyatt's lawyers argument and sends Wyatt to prison.

Later, Maroun talks to Wyatt's addiction counselor who worked with him in the past. He claims that Wyatt planned to propose to Mary. Wyatt's lawyer attempts to use his drug addiction as a variant form of a mental defect defence, but the judge doesn't allow it, so they decide to seek a plea deal instead. Wyatt and his lawyer meet with Price and Maroun to discuss a plea for manslaughter, and Wyatt's lawyer tells them that Wyatt's uncle, Charles Ackman, the owner of a huge pharmacy, is responsible for countless deaths. Wyatt's counselor had just relapsed and died, and now he wants to turn on his uncle and agrees to help them make a case against him.

Maroun meets with Wyatt who tells her that he doesn't think he can testify at Charles' trial. Wyatt tells Maroun that he is on opioid withdrawal, that he started using while he was in prison. Wyatt tells Maroun that he is not feeling well and Maroun manages to get him a prescription so he could testify. Later, Wyatt ends up testifying against Charles. Wyatt tells the jury everything that Charles has done.

In the end, his uncle was convicted of manslaughter of his treatment counselor, and per his plea agreement, now both Ackmans are incarcerated.(L&O: "The Great Pretender")
